Gwinnett County is moving ahead with a replacement for Fire Station 2 in Lilburn. The county has opened bidding for construction of the new station at 205 Rockbridge Road.

The project is still in the bidding stage. Construction has not been verified as started, and the county has not yet awarded a construction contract.

What is happening

Gwinnett County lists solicitation BL130-26 for construction of Fire Station 2. The bid opening is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2026 at 3 p.m.

The new station will replace the current Fire Station 2 at 12 Harmony Grove Road in Lilburn. County records show the replacement project moving forward at the Rockbridge Road site.

The county also issued a development permit for the new station site in late August, which is another step needed before construction can begin.

Why it matters

Fire stations are part of the basic public safety network that serves nearby homes, businesses and roads. Replacing an older station can give the county a facility designed for current equipment, staffing and emergency response needs.

For residents in the Lilburn area, the key point is that the project has moved beyond planning and into the construction bidding process. That does not mean work has started yet, but it puts the replacement station closer to becoming a built project.

What happens next

Contractors can submit bids before the Oct. 6 opening. After that, the county will review the bids and determine whether to award a construction contract.

The next milestones to watch are the bid results, a contract award, a construction start date and a projected completion date. Those details were not established in the sources reviewed for this article.
