Costco has opened a new warehouse at 1915 West Park Place Boulevard in unincorporated Gwinnett County, near Stone Mountain. Costco lists Aug. 27, 2026 as the warehouse opening date.
The store is a major retail piece of the former Stone Mountain Tennis Center redevelopment. Gwinnett County sold the 26-acre property to Fuqua Acquisitions II in 2024 as part of a larger redevelopment plan.
What is happening
The county approved the former tennis center site for a mix of uses, including wholesale retail, four restaurants, housing, community green space, transit improvements and transportation work. The plan also calls for 50 affordable housing units.
A county development permit for the Costco project was issued Aug. 15, 2025. That permit covers 20.41 acres at 1915 West Park Place Boulevard and lists the property outside city limits, confirming that the site is in unincorporated Gwinnett even though the mailing address is Stone Mountain.
Costco's own location page lists Aug. 27 as the warehouse opening date and Aug. 5 as the gas station opening date.
Why it matters
This is more than a new store. The former tennis center has been a major redevelopment site for southwest Gwinnett, and Costco turns one major piece of the plan into an open business.
When the county announced the sale in 2024, it estimated the full redevelopment could bring about $158.8 million in private investment and 520 permanent retail and dining jobs. Those figures apply to the full redevelopment plan, not Costco alone.
For nearby residents, the opening adds a major shopping option along the U.S. 78 and Park Place corridor. It also gives the larger redevelopment a visible step forward after years of planning around the former Olympic tennis site.
What happens next
Costco is open, but the rest of the redevelopment is still a story to watch. The county's plan includes restaurants, housing and public improvements, but the sources reviewed for this article do not give firm opening dates for those pieces.
